Touhou’s Lotus Land Story ‘Bad Apple’ AMV Ported To Vectrex

Bad-Apple-on-VectrexIn 1998 Lotus Land Story, the fourth game in the Touhou series was released for the Japanese PC-98 range of computers. Highly renowned for its incredible gameplay and visuals at the time, the Touhou Project has since gained a cult following and is often enjoyed in many different forms. One of these is an anime-style music video using the audio from the third level of Lotus Land Story known as Bad Apple - and as mad as it may sound, the Vectrex is the latest retro console to show off its very own version of the song.

Having previously made its way to the Sega Mega Drive and other classic hardware too, the music video behind Bad Apple is well known for its iconic shadow and silhouette based artwork. All of these eye-catching visuals match up to the audio perfectly as if it was a video game itself, no doubt luring in homebrew developers to adapt what they see onto the hardware of their choosing.

What makes this Vectrex port more impressive than the rest comes down to what the 1982 system can, and cannot do. Obviously, being a vector based system it can handle all of the curves and corners of the Bad Apple music video perfectly, but what it shouldn’t be able to do is play music or samples - nevermind a full length (and synced up to the visuals) track. With the developer behind the project planning to reveal how it was done in the near future, be sure to see the finished product running on the original hardware below:
