The Typing of the Dead: Overkill Now Available on Steam

the-typing-of-the-dead-overkillIf you remember the original Typing of the Dead then chances are it's with fondness. Well now the ridiculously camp title has a pseudo-sequel in Typing of the dead: Overkill - and it's available right now over on Steam.

Any gamer that played the Sega Dreamcast classic Typing of the Dead will tell you how odd an experience it was. As you progress, stranger and stranger phrases are presented for players to type ("not in mykitchen!") until you can't help but laugh out loud. The whole thing was completely absurd, but that's why we loved it so. The game was essentially a typing tutor, tasking players to quickly type out words and phrases that acted as gunfire to hold back the horde - and it actually worked really well.

Now Sega have re-re-released (the game debuted on Wii in 2009, and has since been ported to PS3 in 2011, and iOS and Android earlier in 2013 as an extended cut) the quite magnificent House of the Dead: Overkill in much the same format as the original - as a re-branded typing tutor. If you haven't played the original Wii version, then you're in for a treat - as this instalment is set up as an early exploitation movie in style, complete with relevant filters and commercial interludes. Be warned however, that this instalment is quite different from the other titles in the series, and is pretty offensive and expletive ridden (we're not complaining, but we thought you should know).

Take a look at the original's trailer, as well as some gameplay from the new version below;

Played through the first chapter yesterday on normal difficulty, no problems yet. I expect it will get worse though!

I type quickly but I backspace a lot, I think that's my problem :)

Yes, backspace resets your word progress, had that problem at first too.
