'The History of Ocean' Kickstarter Hopes To Immortalise The British Gaming Giant's Colourful Past

The-History-of-Ocean-Kickstarter-Hopes-To-Immortalise-The-British-Gaming-Giants-Colourful-PastIf you're not sick of the term 'Kickstarter' yet, we have one more project to bring to your attention. The team behind Retro Fusion are documenting the history behind the British development studio Ocean in a coffee table book featuring anecdotes from those within, photographs, concept graphics and memorabilia that never left the Manchester studio.

Although Ocean Software left behind the games industry in 1998 by becoming part of Infogrames, the countless titles released under the British gaming household name have stood the test of time. Not only did Ocean's software offer a guarantee of quality, but also the promise of impressive visuals and often catchy chiptune soundtracks - many of which were embedded in the Ocean Loader.

The History of Ocean Software is looking to raise £12,000 in an attempt to bring their history book to life. The project already has the likes of Bob Wakelin on board to provide a plethora of original Ocean artwork to decorate the inner pages, along with Oliver Frey (CRASH magazine illustrator and joint founder) to provide illustrations and Roger Kean (CRASH magazine joint founder) to detail the studio's history.

Should the Kickstarter be successful, The History of Ocean will contain approximately 300 coloured A4 landscape pages worth of content, cased within a hardback cover sporting the Ocean logo embossed in the centre. Having raised half of the required funding so far, our fingers are crossed that this collection of gaming history materialises.
