Team 17's Superfrog HD Springs Onto Apple iOS Devices

Superfrog-HD-iOSIf you didn't already rekindle your love for Team 17's iconic 1993 platformer Superfrog upon his HD re-imagining, you've now been given another chance to spring into the amphibian's antics. After Superfrog's arrival on PlayStation 3, PS Vita, Steam and Mac, the British publisher behind this Amiga remake have finally ported the title to Apple iOS range of devices.

Upon its release last year, RetroCollect were rather impressed by Team 17's efforts to revive one of the Commodore Amiga's most recognisable characters. Whilst the art style and gameplay seemed to remain intact and make a smooth transition to the modern realm, it was also worth noting that the difficulty of the game had been reduced drastically and the lack of audio mastery from Allister Brimble was a huge mistake.

Never the less, anyone looking for a nod to the past and some enjoyable platform action on the go should get their devices ready. Set to be available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch via the App Store on the 1st May, Superfrog HD will be available to download for the pocket-money price of £1.49.

Superfrog HD iOS Press Release

Superfrog HD is an updated version of the classic side-scrolling, 2D platformer, for the Amiga re-imagined with enhanced high definition cartoon style graphics.

In the greatest traditions of fairy tales our story sees a handsome prince turned into a slimy frog by an evil and jealous witch… who, in turn, kidnaps the prince's bride to be and heads for the hills. Our little green friend happens upon a mystery potion (wow, how lucky was that?). Chugging on the vial, the frog prince is bestowed with amazing powers.

Determined to defeat the witch our hero sets out on an adventure that, with your help, will lead him to his true love.

You must explore and traverse 24 finely crafted levels and additional boss levels across 6 differently-themed worlds. The goal of each level is to collect a set number of coins, and then reach the exit. The ultimate aim, as ever, is to save the day, beat the witch and get the girl.

  • Enhanced HD graphics
  • 24 new levels based on the original designs
  • Original 1993 level designs available to unlock
  • 6 differently themed worlds
  • Classic arcade platform gameplay
  • Frog Trials – Endless Runner mode

Superfrog HD will be available for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch via the App Store on the 1st May for the special offer price of just £1.49 / $1.99 / 1,99 €.

Owning and Amiga since 1990, I never did see the fuss about this game. It's average as best. It's fun to play, but it's not as great as some people make out.
