[April Fools] Super Mario Bros 'Peach Mode' Cheat Discovered 30 Years Later

Super-Peach-BrosLast year brought around the discovery of an infinite lives glitch within Super Mario Bros, something that has laid dormant in Nintendo’s code for nearly three decades. This, however, isn’t the only secret hiding deep within the 1985 platformer. With the push of a few buttons, Princess Peach soon becomes the heroine on the timeless NES title.

As we all know, Mario has remained the key figure in his Nintendo NES outing, with Luigi making a fighting appearance in two player mode. Elsewhere in the game Toad delivers bad news seven castles over before Princess Peach finally turns up to congratulate the player.

After all that running right and tackling Bowser numerous times, Nintendo clearly forgot to tell us that Peach has been waiting to have her very own adventure for nearly 30 years. According to this Japanese Twitter account, by holding down Left + A + B while pressing Start to begin a one player game, you’ll be thrown into Peach’s quest. This version of the game sees you tackling the many levels of Super Mario Bros in reverse as you attempt to escape Bowser’s many lairs.

Whether there was a missing page from the game’s manual talking about this mode or it was intended to remain a secret we’ll never know, but either way it’s time to stomp our heels into Goombas!
