Super Famicom Exclusive RPG ‘Romancing SaGa’ Fan Translated Into English

Romancing-Saga-SNES-Fan-Translation-PatchEver since Romancing SaGa was released on the Super Famicom in 1992, readers of magazines such as Super Play and other import-orientated publications were left longing for Squaresoft’s monumental RPG adventure. Despite remaining a Japanese exclusive (at least until the PlayStation 2 remake in North America), the 16-bit version of Romancing SaGa was voted into Famitsu’s top 100 greatest games of all time - one we can finally enjoy in English following a fan translation patch.

Taking place in the world of Mardias, Romancing SaGa’s protagonist finds himself fighting through plenty of vile beings in an attempt to restore the evil-sealing Fatestones scattered around the world. Offering your stereotypical JRPG battle system and top-down adventuring, Romancing SaGa may seem no different to the many other titles in the genre, however, as many Japanese gamers will tell you, there’s something special within this series.

For quite some time Romancing SaGa has been in a state of limbo where translation patches are concerned. Since 1997 retro gamers desperate to get into the action have had access to half finished English patches, however, it’s only as of now that Romancing SaGa’s entire script and menus have been decoded into something we can understand.

Using the newly released fan translation patch from DDS Translations you’ll be able to experience this two decade old adventure on either a Super Nintendo flash cartridge or emulator. Similar to the many other fan patches out there, you'll need to get hold of a legally obtained Romancing SaGa Super Famicom ROM file to apply this patch to.
