Stunning Homebrew Commodore 64 Platformer ‘Sam’s Journey’ Nearing Cartridge Release

Sams-Journey-New-Gameplay-TrailerJust under a year ago it was announced that the Commodore 64 was due to receive an all new platforming adventure. Despite the limitations of the system, homebrew development studio Knights of Bytes has put forward one of the most visually impressive and promising games to ever grace the 8-bit computer in Sam’s Journey.

Although the game is yet to be released Knights of Bytes are nearing ever closer to the big day. Having recently agreed a deal with Individual Computers, Sam’s Journey will be available on a massive 4MBit cartridge with save game functionality. While sounding like an awful lot of space for Commodore 64 game, the most recent gameplay trailers for Sam’s Journey go on to prove how much power is really needed.

According to the game's official website, here's what will be on offer soon:

  • Fast Free-Directional Scrolling
  • Many Basic Moves Plus Climbing And Swimming
  • 6 Special Costumes With Additional Skills
  • 3 Overworld Maps
  • 27 Huge Levels With Multiple Sections
  • 2000 Screens To Be Explored
  • 14 Different Graphical Settings
  • 19 Beautiful Tunes
  • Hidden Items To Be Found & Secret Passages To Be Discovered
  • Checkpoint System & Savegame Option

Needless to say from both the promised features and video footage below, C64 gamers are in for a real treat! With gameplay set to rival countless other console equivalents, this may be one of the greatest homebrew developments to date in the retro gaming community.
