PC gamers have not been left out of the loop while all the celebrations of Sonic the Hedgehog's 20th birthday. Sega has released a special anniversary pack for PC fans that contains several games and special Sonic 20th Anniversary labelled mouse and mouse pad.
Unfortunately, however, this pack does feel somewhat slapped together. The games included in the pack are a compilation of titles that have been available for PC for some time. Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Heroes, Sonic Riders and Sonic Mega Collection Plus; which includes all of Sonic's Mega Drive titles as well as some of his Game Gear adventures; are the titles on offer. As a PC gamer myself, I can't help but feel a little cheated here at the included selection. Surely a PC adaptation of Sonic 4 or a demo of a PC version Sonic Generations (wishful-thinking) would have been much nicer. Still, we do get a mouse and a mouse pad.
While these are nice collectibles, again, ones feels that Sega didn't put too much thought into this. The mouse, while nice, does feel a little plasticy and also is a little too small to be comfortable to use. But then, perhaps this writer just has oafish hands. The mouse pad, again nice to look at, is not of the quality one feels it should be. The print quality of the image could have been much nicer and why Sega chose to use a material surface on the pad rather than a plastic one is anyone's guess. It does give off the feeling that Sega are still regarding PC gamers as an afterthought, even though they do have many fans in that particular gaming subculture.
Given all of this, you may wonder if the Sonic Anniversary PC Pack is worth bothering with at all. Well, the answer to that depends on how big a Sonic fan you are. If, like myself, the idea of having a decent Sonic mouse and mouse pad is kind of cool, then you'll probably be happy to pay the $30AU asking price. However, if you already own all the games and such items don't stir your fanboy juices this one might be better left of the self.
