While the Sonic 2 HD Remake may have closed its doors, that doesn't mean we can't be enjoying other fan made blue hedgehog releases. Sonic After The Sequel is the follow up to the hugely popular and very impressive Sonic Before The Sequel, further proving that good gameplay doesn't require high definition graphics.
We took a look at Sonic Before The Sequel late last year and it would appear that since then the team behind the release have been hard at work. These fan made games (which are not hacks relying on Sega's original code) seem to capture the finesse and polish of Sonic's Mega Drive outings, with a dash of extra content.
Aside from the gorgeous locations depicting lost worlds from the planet Mobius, the most impressive additions to Sonic After The Sequel are the various cutscenes dotted throughout the game - something missing from the original Mega Drive titles. Another enticing introduction is the run-along-boss-battles only used briefly in Sega's Mega Drive titles (Angel Island and Mushroom Hill), making the most of Sonic's speed and Robotnik's genius.
