Sega's Sonic The Hedgehog Spindashes Onto The Nintendo 3DS As A 3D Classic This Month

Sega-Sonic-The-Hedgehog-Spindashes-Onto-The-Nintendo-3DS-As-A-3D-This-MonthHaving already released Space Harrier and Super Hang-On as 3D Classics on the Nintendo 3DS handheld, many expected After Burner would be the next title to receive the three dimensional update. Much to our surprise, the original Sega Mega Drive début for Sonic The Hedgehog is next in line, adding depth to the curves of Green Hill Zone.

Simply titled ’3D Sonic the Hedgehog’, this new 3DS download is a port of the 1991 platformer which first graced the Mega Drive including various additions. According to Siliconera, the game will enhance the original by introducing save state functionality and the spin-dash ability first seen in Sonic The Hedgehog 2.

Seeing added depth and perspective to the many zones of Mobius we've all grown familiar with will no doubt be a huge selling point for retro gamers around the world. Unfortunately enough, there is currently no word on a Western release as of yet, but we'd be rather surprised if Sega didn't make this an International release. In the meantime, Japanese 3DS owners can look towards downloading this title for just 600 Yen on the 15th May.

They had better release Space Harrier in the US. That is one of my all-time favorite games, and the only time I've played that in 3D was on the SMS. I'd love to play it 3D again with arcade graphics! I would also totally pick up Sonic since the first sonic game was the best in the series.
