Sega Sadly Confirms 'Shenmue III' Filed Trademark Is Fake

Shenmue-III-Trademark-FakeLast week the rumour mill was alive with news that Sega had finally filed a trademark for the long awaited and highly anticipated follow up to Ryo Hazuki's adventures, Shenmue III. As of today though, Sega have sadly confirmed that this very trademark is not the good news (nor sailors) we were looking for.

This, however, wouldn't be the first time fans have been tricked by registered trademarks - both the Half-Life and Fallout series as of recent have been victims of similar pranks, leaving countless gamers disappointed around the world.

Having recently spoke to Eurogamer, Sega were quick to note that they are currently looking into the origins of this falsely filed trademark.

Once again, this unfortunate news leaves us empty handed where the Dreamcast epic's legacy is concerned, especially given the game's creator Yu Suzuki does not hold the Shenmue license.

There is good news, though. Shenmue II has finally come to the Dreamcast with an English dub, over a decade after the game was released on the Xbox. You'll find more information about it here:
