Sega Model 2 Collection Comes To Xbox Live Arcade With Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers And Sonic The Fighters

Sega-Model-2-Collection-Comes-To-Xbox-Live-Arcade-With-Virtua-Fighter-2-Fighting-Vipers-And-Sonic-The-FightersAs Sega continue to digitally preserve their back catalogue on modern consoles, their arcade output on the Model 2 hardware is next to join the fray. From their coin-op line up, Virtua Fighter 2 , Fighting Vipers And Sonic The Fighters are the first to arrive on Xbox Live Arcade - hopefully with many more on the way soon.

Out this trio of arcade classics, the team at RetroCollect are most excited about being able to battle between each other on Sonic The Fighters. While the Hedgehog themed fighter might not have anything on its Model 2 siblings, it remained a curiosity due to being an elusive arcade exclusive at least until its arrival nine years later on the Sonic Gems Collection.

All three of these AM2 fighters are now available to purchase on the Xbox Live Marketplace for the low cost of just 400 points each. Virtua Striker and Virtual On Cyber Troopers, however, are yet to be seen.

I grabbed Sonic the Fighters (it has three extra characters- press start on Sonic, Bean or Amy to see them, but two can't be used in Arcade Mode) and Fighting Vipers, which I have a well-known weakness for (it is the most 90s fighting game ever made and is so nuts it's hard not to like it).

On the whole, these are pretty good! The online works well enough (had a bit of delay when playing people from much further away, but it's been relatively smooth) and it's so nice to see Sega remembers that Fighting Vipers is a game they once made, but my main gripe is no training mode.

Hopefully this leads to a Fighting Vipers 2 port. Please. Please.
