Sega Mega Drive Homebrew RPG Pier Solar Set For A HD Remake On Modern Consoles & The Sega Dreamcast

Sega-Mega-Drive-Homebrew-RPG-Pier-Solar-Set-For-A-HD-Remake-On-Modern-Consoles-The-Sega-DreamcastDespite being a mere two years old, Pier Solar, the incredibly detailed 16-bit homebrew Sega Mega Drive RPG is getting a HD remake. WaterMelon have just opened up a Kickstarter to raise funds for a highly polished rerelease on the PC, Linux, Mac, Xbox 360, and most importantly the Sega Dreamcast.

Released in 2010, Pier Solar was the most anticipated homebrew release for many years. Having seen a handful of delays and development issues, many gamers cancelled their pre-orders, only to find themselves ending up incredibly disappointed once the stunning 64-Meg cartridge saw the light of day - so much so the price it now demands on eBay is an overwhelming sight.

WaterMelon previously reacted to the wave of new interest by creating a reprint edition of Pier Solar. However, demand far exceeded their expectations to the point where gamers wanted even more. Ongoing suggestions of a HD port and modern platform release of Pier Solar were very much heard, sending Watermelon back to the drawing board.

Hoping to immortalise their Mega Drive RPG hit on modern platforms, Watermelon have turned to the crowdsourcing platform Kickstarter to ask gamers to make a pledge. Not only will gamers be able to get hold of a digital download of the game should the target be met, but those who back the cause with $49 will be sent a physical copy of their Sega Dreamcast version - one your collection won’t want to miss out on.

Excellent. It's a shame that so few people have been able to experience their work; I was one of the lucky ones who got hold of a copy of their Mega Drive version when it was released, but if you look at the price of it on eBay now... bleh!
