Sega Dreamcast Collection heading to PC and Xbox 360

Sega-Dreamcast-Collection-Xbox-360-PCIf you didn't already download the Sega Dreamcast games which hit Xbox Live, a collection of selected games are heading for a retail disc release soon. Arriving on the Xbox 360 and PC, the bundle features enhanced versions of classics such as Sonic Adventure and the much loved Crazy Taxi.

Sega's latest press release detailed this new bundle this morning. Sonic Adventure, Crazy Taxi, Sega Bass Fishing and Space Channel 5: Part 2 are the games set to feature in the bundle, but we cannot help but wonder where the likes of Shenmue, Chu Chu Rocket and Jet Set Radio are.

Regardless of missing titles, we will always welcome remakes and reissues of our favourite games time and time again. Sony PlayStation 3 owners shouldn't feel left out either, as Sega has confirmed digital downloads of the said games to be arriving shortly. This retail release is said to be arriving on the 25th Februrary for Europe, so make a note in your calendars.

Here is the press release from Sega:

Early this morning details of the Dreamcast Collection, a boxed version of the first quartet of titles currently slated for re-release as part of the Dreamcast digital re-release program was announced via press release. You can see details from that press release below.

LONDON & SAN FRANCISCO (January 14th 2011) – SEGA® Europe Ltd. and SEGA® of America, Inc. today announced that a packaged compilation of  classic titles from  SEGA’s  popular Dreamcast™  console will hit retail shelves on the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and the PC. The Dreamcast Collection will be available on February 25th 2011 in Europe and February 22nd in North America.

The Dreamcast Collection includes the fan favourites Sonic Adventure™, Crazy Taxi™, SEGA Bass Fishing™ and Space Channel 5™: Part 2.  Players will get to enjoy four very different Dreamcast experiences, from hopping behind the steering wheel of Crazy Taxi, to taking things a little slower by luring in their fish before catching them hook, line and sinker with SEGA Bass Fishing. Alternatively, take over as intergalactic news reporter Ulala in Space Channel 5: Part 2 and dance your way past the evil Rhythm Rogues, or make it all about speed in Sonic’s first Dreamcast outing, Sonic Adventure!

SEGA’s Dreamcast Collection features enhanced graphics for both platforms versions, providing an even more engaging experience. In addition to this, achievements and online leader boards will be available for each game providing a competitive edge and allowing players to prove their skills!

“The Dreamcast console is still remembered as a pioneering console for online gaming,” commented Gary Knight, VP of Marketing at SEGA of America and SEGA Europe “We are delighted to be able to offer to our large community of dedicated fans a collection such as Dreamcast Collection for them to enjoy old favourites on this generation of consoles”

Very disappointed that this wasn't a more comprehensive collection of Dreamcast goodies.

Yeah, it's pretty much a rip-off. Only Space Channel 5 Part 2 (no PAL Dreamcast release, rare PS2 release) saves it from being a complete fail. But then again, Sega has never been very generous with their collections (4 Sonic Games on one DS cart anyone?) so it's hardly a surprise.

So they're just re-releasing the XBLA ports onto disc.

Shouldn't have got my hopes up about Zombie Revenge getting re-released!

Was never a fan of the Dreamcast, but when this hits a budget price I will probably pick it up anyway.

I'm surprised they didn't stick the HD Rez on there too.

Since I never had a DC I am interested in this, will wait to get it second hand somewhere though. So will Sega be doing a part 2 to this in the coming months does anyone know?

Seriously not impressed if they're just the XBLA ports....

I recently purchased Sonic Adventure and found it extremely frustrating. It's buggy as hell and I found myself frequently running through walls and into no mans land then dying.

Awful.

Typical Sega.

Hmm looks okay, will have to wait and see how the journalists review it.
