Sega Announce Second Wave Of Arcade Classics Set For 3D Remakes

Sega-Announce-Next-Batch-Of-3D-For-Nintendo-3DSAfter re-releasing eight of their most loved titles in a new 3D form, Sega are once again returning to their back catalogue to revitalise another batch of titles. Now joining the likes of Streets of Rage, Ecco the Dolphin and Sonic The Hedgehog on the Nintendo 3DS, are arcade favourites such as OutRun and After Burner II.

If you're yet to play any of these re-releases from Sega, they're almost identical to the original offering, only various elements of the visuals have been separated into multiple layers to create a 3D effect. The presentation is rather stunning, especially seeing locations such as Green Hill Zone being given a previously unseen level of depth.

According to Sega, 3D After Burner II is the first title to be hitting the eShop in early 2015, at the familiar cost of $5.99 / €4.99 / £4.49. Another four titles will soon follow the mach-speed shooter, including several favourites:

  • 3D After Burner II
  • 3D Fantasy Zone
  • 3D Fantasy Zone II
  • 3D OutRun
  • 3D Thunder Blade

Stay tuned as we await the landing of After Burner II and the others from Sega on the Nintendo 3DS eShop.

Anything Outrun always peaks my interest, however we all know the way to play OutRun (unless you have the cab) is on the Saturn ;) If the 3DS version matches that... then they have a sale!

I enjoyed Sonic and Streets of Rage in the first wave of these...
Especially given Sonic had multiple game options and an optional spin dash. Plus better yet Streets of Rage had local coop through local wifi and that 1 hit KO mode added.

I did intend to get super hang on too, at the least for the novelty of the tilt controls they added, but I think I'll wait to see if that ever gets added to an eshop sale...

What else was in the first wave again?...
