Sega Announce Free ‘Mega Drive Classics Hub’ Emulation Frontend

Mega-Drive-HubWith such a strong heritage in the gaming world, it comes as no surprise that Sega are once again tapping into their incredible back catalogue. The newly announced Mega Drive Classics Hub is an emulation frontend that mimics the look and feel of a bedroom from the 90s, equipped with just about every 16-bit hit you’d ever want.

Launching on the 28th April, the Mega Drive Classics Hub is due to hit Steam as a free download with full Steam Workshop support. The idea behind this frontend is to offer an interactive and dynamic 3D room which houses your games collection, along with a whole host of Sega paraphernalia. With time-of-day features within this replica room, Sega are pulling out all the stops to recreate those memorable moments from decades ago.

The frontend is also set to be compatible with ‘modified’ versions of the Mega Drive line-up, however, it’s yet to be confirmed what this means exactly. Whether this be the various ROM hacks already out there, or even an unofficial line up of Mega Drive ROMs is yet to be known.

At launch the Mega Drive Classics Hub will be compatible with the many existing 16-bit re-releases already on Steam, with what we can only assume is many more to come. So while we await next Thursday, here’s a trailer direct from Sega showcasing this fantastic frontend.

I know you can't see it, but I'm making my happy face!
This is hugely desirable for me. Sega continuing to make very good use of their extensive back catalogue! The Megadrive = My childhood. Thanks, Sega for enabling me to remain a child well into my adult years! :)
