Revised Atari 2600 Flash Cartridge 'Harmony Forte' Out Soon

Atari-Harmony-Forte-Flash-Cartridge-AnnouncedSince 2009 Atari 2600 owners have had the luxury of playing the entire library of classics from one single cartridge loaded with an SD card. This flash cart known as the Harmony has recently been given a revamp with added power to improve compatibility, something set to go on sale shortly.

Homebrew developers creating Atari 2600 games recently have been pushing the primitive system to its upper limits - so much so the likes of Sonic The Hedgehog and Super Mario Bros have both made unofficial appearances on the system. In turn this has meant that the only means of enjoying these indie treats is through emulation or custom cartridges, purely because the existing Harmony cartridge didn't have enough juice to hold these technical feats in memory.

Now bolstered with 512k of ROM or RAM and 1M of EEPROM storage, Atari-aficionados can look forward to enjoying near 100% compatibility with the existing 2600 library. The cartridge is set to go on sale at the North American NWCGE swap meet in Portland, Oregon later this month, with more expected be sold online shortly after. An upgrade service will also be made available for those who have the older Harmony cartridge seeking an added burst of power.
