Retrode Online Store re-opens up after a brief closure

Retrode-Cartridge-AdapterAfter a brief closure, the Retrode is finally back in stock and shipping. Alongside this good news comes more enhancements to the USB cartridge adapter, soon to be offering support for Atari 2600, Nintendo Gameboy and Nintendo 64 cartridges.

For those wondering, the Retrode is a USB cartridge slot, which once connected to your PC/Mac, will allow you to access a ROM file of the cartridge you have inserted. As simple as that, it's a new legal approach to emulators and ROMs and also a Swiss army knife for anyone dedicated to the preservation of video games. The device currently supports Super Nintendo and Sega Megadrive, with the two cartridge slots already embedded onto the board.

Retrode's creator, Matthias Hullin has been hard at work to create many adapters recently to allow various other cartridges to be used with the Retrode. The new adapters will plug into either the SNES or Megadrive slots (depending on the adapter). His latest plans to produce adapters for the Atari 2600, Nintendo Gameboy and Nintendo 64 are well underway.

The new adapters have had specially manufactured connectors and boards, however connecting the two together is a job for Matthias. With an incredible amount of solder points to join, he has stated that the adapters will not be available for another 10 weeks. In the meantime, why not get a Retrode and backup any prototypes, betas, samples or even retail games you have and preserve gaming history.
