It’s finally that time of year again, as Replay Expo is fast approaching. With less than 3 weeks until gamers around the country travel to the retro gaming event of the year, we thought it was about time to announce that RetroCollect will be making a prominent appearance in Blackpool.
Although there is a wealth of mind-blowing arcade cabinets, pinball machines, games consoles and events to indulge in, we’re hoping you’ll be able to come by and mingle with the many RetroCollect staff members attending the event.
But if you thought our attendance was the only item to report here, we’ve got much more in stock for you. We’ve got some incredible retro gaming events organised which we hope to give you a sneak peek of right now...
Introducing the RetroCollect World Championships 2011
You should all be familiar with those infamous Nintendo World Championship cartridges which fetch obscene amounts on eBay, but how many of you got the chance to partake in the legendary event these cartridges originated from 21 years ago?
Unless you grew up in America in 1990, we expect you we’re just like us having missed out on one of the most talked about pieces of gaming history. Despite having the word ‘World’ in their competition title, Nintendo’s iconic event never gave gamers outside of the US a chance to prove their incredible skills. With this in mind, RetroCollect are planning to set the record straight and recreate our very own version of the iconic competition, the RetroCollect World Championships 2011.
Using a reproduction Nintendo World Championships cartridge (given we can’t afford to drop $20,000 on a single cart), we will be on the lookout over the weekend for the best gamer in Blackpool who can rack up the highest accumulated score possible during a timed battle on the familiar Super Mario Bros, Rad Racer and Tetris.
Here is a quick example of the cartridge in action, to help you prepare to prove your abilities:
Seems easy enough, right? We’ve got some fantastic prizes and gaming memorabilia for the most impressive players around, so it’s up to you to grab those coins, drive as fast as possible and arrange those blocks. You’ve got a few weeks to go, so get out your Nintendo NES, get practicing and get ready, we’re expecting nothing but your best!
But I’m a Sega gamer! What about me?
Don’t you worry, our Nintendo themed event won’t be the only competition taking place. This is one of the many other treats planned for our dedicated followers and those yet to meet us, some of which we hope to reveal before November. Stay tuned!
What else are we up to?
Gaming aside, Replay have very kindly offered the space for RetroCollect to showcase the very website you’re reading this on. Given some dedicated retro gamers are yet to discover this pixel fuelled website, we’re hoping to lead them into our corner of the internet and display the great features you’re all so familiar with. So should you see a gamer near by wondering what this very site contains, give them a friendly nudge into the community you all know and love.
We’re looking forward to seeing you all, so please drop by our stands and introduce yourself, but more importantly prove your worth at the RetroCollect World Championships 2011.
