Retro Love on the Nintendo Switch

Switch N

This morning Nintendo held a conference revealing the Nintendo Switch, along with hardware details and games ranging from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to Super Mario Odyssey.

Among the games shown were some which will surely go down well with retro fans coming to the Switch. Key among these was Arcade Archives which you may have seen on PS4, and is a series of emulated arcade machine classics such as Double Dragon, The King of Fighters '94, and Metal Slug.

Monster Boy and the Cursed Kingdom takes influences from the 1989 game, Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap.

Puyo Puyo Tetris finally comes to the west this Spring, with both the PS4 and Nintendo Switch getting versions of this title combing two classic puzzle games.

Shovel Knight, the NES era inspired game is getting updated soon with more content and will make its way over to the Switch sometime in 2017.

Sonic Mania will also come to Switch in the Spring, the same time as the other consoles on the market.

Konami are bringing back a classic series with Super Bomberman R which seems to be return to form.

Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers is also coming with new characters Evil Ryu and Violent Ken.

Constructor HD, Fast RMX, Has Been Heroes, I Am Setsuna, Project Octopath Traveler, Project Sonic, Redout, Syberia 3, Yooka-Laylee may also tickle your retro taste buds.

We're sure that whatever your tastes, the Switch will offer plenty to fans of classic games. With the recent release of the Nintendo Classic Mini, it's apparent that the thirst for games of yesteryear and the themes they contain are still as popular as ever and Nintendo aren't about to forget it.
