GameGadget Retro Gaming Handheld Gets A March 2012 Release Date

GameGadget-An-Open-Source-Retro-Gaming-Handheld-Coming-SoonAfter taking the press by storm and being dubbed the ‘iPod of Retro Gaming’, the upcoming open source GameGadget handheld has been given a RRP and release date. Although the PS Vita is just around the corner, you may want to save your pennies a little longer.

Set to be made available on the 30th March 2012, GameGadget is going to be sold exclusively on the official GameGadget website. At £99.99 the first UK developed console in quite some time is ready to pack a punch with a vast array of retro gamer friendly features.

While we’re yet to see any games in action on the GameGadget, the latest press release has revealed the hardware specifications alongside a video showcasing the device.

  • CPU core: 433mhz dual core CPU    
  • Internal Ram: 64MB RAM / 2GB Flash RAM    
  • Input: D-Pad, 2 shoulder, 4 face, Start, Select & Reset buttons    
  • Outputs: Stereo Speakers, Headphones Jack & TV-out    
  • Display: 3.5” LCD    
  • Screen Resolution: 320 x 240 pixels resolution (16 BIT colour)    
  • Battery: Li-Ion (rechargeable)    
  • Additional Storage: SD/SDHC    
  • Connectivity: Micro USB    
  • Dimensions: 140 W x 75 H x 16 D (mm)

I think it might be cool but as its downloads only kinda lame.

Vastly underpowered in IMHO. Even the Pandora, whose design (over 3 years old) is looking long in the tooth even before they have finished shipping the original batch, runs rings around this. Won't be emulating N64 on this thing. :( The only thing it has going for it is the price.
