Retro Gaming Box Artist 'Greg Martin' Passes Away

Greg-Martin-Passes-AwayOur younger-selves may have loved the video game artwork strewn across the covers of our favourite titles, but it's only now - a moment too late - that we begin to really appreciate them. The incredibly talented Greg Martin, the artist behind countless Sega, Nintendo and NEC game visuals has sadly passed away.

Originally starting out his career at Hanna-Barbera, Martin soon found himself working on box artwork for the likes of The Flintstones (Mega Drive) and The Jetsons (Nintendo NES, Game Boy). This in turn landed the prolific illustrator a break away from the animation studio, creating covers for countless more games spanning multiple platforms.

Simply put, without a doubt you will know and love Martin's work - and you will have for quite some time. With the likes of Sonic The Hedgehog 1 & 2, Adventure Island and Bonk (to name but a few) all sporting the artists definitive style, it's hard to imagine what these titles would have looked like otherwise.

Over at the NintendoAge forums one user who was in close contact with Martin has been discussing his passing and the many memories he has left behind for all of us.
