Just weeks after one of the last surviving retro game shops in the capital city closed down, another has risen from the ashes- keeping the pixelated flag flying. Retro Game Base is set to open up in London later this month. Not only will it offer us the high street experience once more, but also act as a local arcade and hang out for retro gamers.
Retro Game Base is being opened by the masterminds behind Hand Baked Arcade, a team of retro gaming enthusiasts who have been arranging events and shows sporting our favourite pastimes for quite some time now. On their Facebook page, Retro Game Base announced that London would once again be blessed with a retro gaming superstore on the 23rd June this month in the district of Streatham.
Other news snippets from their Facebook page have revealed that an original Street Fighter II cabinet has already arrived in store, hopefully ready for a potential tournament once the RetroCollect Squad make their way down! This is supposedly sat beside a Point Blank machine and a generic 60 in 1 Jamma cabinet, further suggesting that our new home is situated in London. Arcade machines aside, several photographs have also been uploaded the Facebook page showcasing the wealth of retro gaming stock which has been populating the shelving units. Time to get saving...
Be sure to head down on the 23rd of June for the grand opening.
