Retro City Rampage (aka Grandtheftendo) Upcoming Trailer

RetroCityRampageYou've gotta love these retro demake games coming out at the moment. The latest arrival is Retro City Rampage, an original re-telling of Grand Theft Auto set for the Nintendo Wii via WiiWare. Get ready to hijack some 8-bit cars!

Taking homage from the days of the Nintendo NES, it should be noted that we nearly did have this game a good few years ago. Back in 2002, coder Brian Provinciano began creating a 8-bit version of Grand Theft Auto for the NES, simply titled Grandtheftendo. Within a year or two the game had received a massive following and had become the most anticipated homebrew releases in a long time.

Sadly though, it was never released. Both the original website and creators website became parked domains and the project went MIA. While the official word was that the creator had become busier with other things, our guess is that either Rockstar or Nintendo stepped in and waved the finger.

But not all hope is lost, fast forward a few years and out of the blue arrives Retro City Rampage at the latest Independent Games Festival. Brian Provinciano returns with his new company VBlank entertainment to finally offer us the 8-bit GTA we have been craving for so long. And yeah, the trailer offers everything we had hoped for...
