Capcom's Resident Evil 6 Announced, Release Date Confirmed For 2012

re6Viral websites are becoming an easy way to introduce new content to media junkies, and video games are no strangers to this form of pumping up big announcements. That's why Capcom has announced an all-new sixth chapter in the Resident Evil game series for release later this year.

Capcom has officially released the first trailer for Resident Evil 6 to this viral website, and, graphically, it's looking mighty impressive. The game mostly focused on CG and in-game cutscenes, but the footage was well put together, yet makes the viewer ask numerous questions about gameplay, story and more.

Resident Evil 6 Official Trailer

It's nice to see Leon S. Kennedy (Resident Evil 2's leading male character) and Chris Redfield (The first lead male playable character in any Resident Evil game,) in the same game, and this has been a long time coming. A few smaller female roles have been shown, but some of the unknown characters, including a mysterious scarred man and his short-haired blonde counterpart, raise more questions than answers.

The themes are the only thing we can talk about so far, as the first part of the trailer seems to focus on a classic survival horror aspect. The later part of the trailer seems to focus more on the later games in the series, relying on action over survival. I felt a breath of fresh air that quickly left as soon as these scenes began playing. I'm worried that this mysterious character is pushing the series into emulating the Infamous series than the classic Resident Evil gather and survive tactics. Chris Redfield suffers from the male version of the same disease Ivy (Soul Calibur) suffers from, as his muscles seem to get bigger in each game.

The game has been announced for a November 20, 2012 release date, though the date hasn't been specified as to whether or not this is a specific region, or worldwide.

What does RetroCollect.com think of the new trailer? More of the same, or a return to form? How do you feel about the mysterious characters, and the team up of Leon and Chris? Are you missing Jill, Claire and the others? Tell us what you think!
