Psikyo's Shmup 'Gunbird 2' Blasts Onto iOS & Android

Gunbird-2-iOS-AndroidOver the last few years an array of scrolling shooter have been ported to touchscreen devices including the likes of Ikaruga, Espgaluda and Raiden. The latest title to be joining these classics on both iOS and Android is Psikyo's frantic arcade shmup Gunbird 2.

Originally released in the arcades back in 1998 and then on the Sega Dreamcast in 2000, Gunbird 2 is a vertical shmup constiting of seven stages of gorgeous pixel perfect sprite-work, along with challenging bullet-dodging gameplay. Gunbird 2 is quite a notable release in the shmup history due to it also being the very first Psikyo shooter to feature medal-chaining.

While a lot of other retro remakes have struggled on touchscreen devices due to the lack of physical controls, scrolling shooters seem somewhat more natural with touch based controls as you glide through the mayhem. Take note, however, not only is the game only available in Korean (and features in-app purchases), but it also requires a KakaoTalk user account to be created beforehand on another application.
