Cancelled Sega Mega Drive Game 'Frog Dude' ROM Released by Original Twilight Programmer

Frog-Dude-Mega-DriveWhilst working at Twilight, the company best known for Alfred Chicken, retro developer Andy Swann was working on a British Super Mario beater for the Sega Mega Drive. This previous undocumented title known as Frog Dude has just been released online as a downloadable ROM - surprisingly enough by Swann himself.

This new arrival to the Mega Drive scene arrives via the unreleased, prototype and unfinished game archival website Games That Weren't who were recently in touch with Swann. After speaking via email, Swann was kind enough to not only only send over this unheard of amphibious adventure but also an early trade build of Alfred Chicken for the Amiga - a build created especially for the 1993 ECTS Show.

As exciting as the arrival of a new Mega Drive game may be, it has to be noted that this is very much a left over example of a work in progress. Although the controls are tight and the visuals look great, all that's on offer is a single level demo of the platformer with no audio. Nevertheless it gives a fantastic look at the what could have jumped on to the Mega Drive all these years ago, possibly leapfrogging Mario himself!

This is really unfinnished. A shame cause it has a great base for a fun game. Nice graphics, weird concept and nice controls.

The first thing I noticed is if you start the game by walking off the left side of the screen you will come out the right side seconds later walking on the green glitchy bar, you cant jump back up to the actual land until you back track.

Also this green bar protects you from death.
No music and some weird layouts of the berries you collect
strange robot arms coming out of trees

Strange worth a look
