'Princess Rescue' Homebrew Atari 2600 Version Of Super Mario Bros Released On Physical Cartridge

Princess-Rescue-Homebrew-Atari-2600-Version-Of-Super-Mario-Bros-Released-On-Physical-CartridgeLast year homebrew programmer Chris Spry managed to de-make Nintendo's Super Mario Bros for the Atari 2600. This ambitious effort and tribute to the Nintendo NES classic has now been released in physical cartridge form, under the all new name, Princess Rescue - a new release limited to just 100 copies.

While this homebrew effort may lack the finesse and charm of Nintendo's original, this 2600 title is nothing short of incredible. Being able to replicate gameplay similar to that of the Nintendo NES on the dated Atari 2600 is quite the feat.

As of today you'll be able to experience this technical trickery on your Atari 2600 console, as AtariAge have begun selling physical copies of Princess Rescue. For $50 you'll be able to secure yourself a pre-order of this console crossover and (potential) future collectable.

Wait how in the bleep do they get those kind of sounds out of the Atari 2600?

Magic. Actually, the Atari 2600 has two sound channels. Even though it has a limited range of notes and waveforms, it was just enough to be able to do this.
