Planet Virtual Boy Homebrew Coding Competition Brings Along Zpace Racers, Flappy Bird & More

Virtual-Boy-Zpace-RacersThe Virtual Boy is known for having a rather small library of games at the ready, but fans of Nintendo's primitive 3D headset will pleased to know a selection of new titles are on the way. The fansite Planet Virtual Boy is holding their annual Coding Competition - one which has already seen a selection of impressive titles submitted, including Zpace Racers.

This annual competition not only aims to find the most talented homebrew developers around, but also hopes to breathe new life into the 1995 system. As of speaking a technical demo showing how StarFox could be achieved on the Virtual Boy has been submitted, along with another offering of Flappy Bird starring the Mushroom Kingdom's Cheep Cheep.

The most notable entry to date though is Zpace Racers. Using more advanced polygon visuals, the game's developer DanB has put forward a futuristic racer - one which holds a lot of promise. Like many of these submissions, they're far from complete, however, they do provide even more action for owners of Nintendo's fabled system.

Those of you lucky enough to own a FlashBoy (Virtual Boy flash cartridge) can look forward to trying these titles on the original hardware, while everyone else can give them a whirl through emulation.
