PC Engine HDMI-Ready 720p Video Adapter ‘Uper Grafx’ Out Soon

Uper-Grafx-PC-Engine-DVI-Video-AdapterAs time and technology moves on we’re continually finding ourselves in a battle with our limited space. If we’re wanting to enjoy the best of both modern and retro games, compromises have to be met when it comes to televisions. With that in mind, those of you sticking with high definition displays will be pleased to know an all new 720p compatible video adapter for the PC Engine is nearing completion.

Although the XRGB upscalers might be the go-to choice for retro gamers with modern displays, they're not exactly the easiest devices to acquire - nevermind the price tag they also command. While the many different XRGB models may provide an all-in-one solution, the newly announced Uper Grafx will hopefully bring high definition gaming to those exclusively enjoying NEC’s 8-bit powerhouse.

Slotting into the expansion port on the back of the PC Engine, Core Grafx or Core Grafx II, the Uper Grafx video adapter features a DVI connector alongside an audio jack for crystal clear audiovisuals. The device also doubles up as a backup RAM adapter (similar to the Ten No Koe) for games which utilise the save functionality. These save files can then be backed up to a computer for safekeeping, all through a USB cable with the accompanying software.

And last but not least, those of you familiar with the XRGB devices will no doubt be wonder how you go about adjusting the Uper Grafx’s video output. According to the official website, powering up a PC Engine with the adapter connected and no game inserted will display a service mode whereby you can adjust the aspect ratio, v-sync frequency, and nametable cropping too.

No price or release date has been set as of yet, however, the official website suggests that the device will be ready towards the backend of this month.
