Oh Mummy - Brand New Sega Mega Drive / Genesis Homebrew Cartridge Release Due This October

Oh-Mummy-Brand-New-Sega-Mega-Drive-Genesis-Homebrew-Cartridge-Due-This-October1985Alternativo, homebrew newcomers hailing from Spain, have made an impressive and impactful entrance. Out of blue they have announced their brand new Sega Mega Drive / Genesis arcade game, Oh Mummy, an updated remake of an old Amstrad CPC title which is due for release in cartridge form this October.

This new release from 1985Alternativo remains very faithful to the original 1984 Amstrad CPC version of Oh Mummy, whilst introducing a story, gorgeous 16-bit visuals and what appears to be a new addition of boss fights. The core gameplay, however, remains intact requiring you to circle the many tombs in view to reveal treasure while avoiding the evil mummies.

Going by their trailer it would also appear that the original Amstrad CPC version (or at least a port of it) is present within the game. Whether or not this is just a visual mockup and teaser is yet to be told, but our hopes are high for getting both versions of Oh Mummy on the Sega Mega Drive / Genesis.

I actually remember playing the original around my brothers friends house never quite liked it but this remake actually looks pretty good.

I loved this game as a nipper it was one of the 12-game pack in cassettes that came with the computer and easily the most played game I had until I got hold of Fantasy World Dizzy and Gauntlet II.

I *NEED* this on the Megadrive :o

Well, this probably wins the prize for "most unexpected port ever" heh...

This game was one of the few Spectrum games bought after our original handful that I played regularly, unbelievable that it's getting remade completely for the MD. I'll be getting this, needless to say, just need to find something to sell first. Thanks for news on physical-copy homebrews, keep it up.

This looks interesting!
But i would like to know whats included. Cover, Manual etc?

And does anyone know if it is simultaneous 2 player mode? Or turn based?

Someone contacted the manufacturer, they claim it includes Box and Manual, yes. Apparently these guys did a GBA game earlier as well, a remake of the Speccy classic Batman. Which everyone missed and is now sold out :(

That's the thing with these homebrews, you'd expect their existence to be shouted from the rooftops, but aside from Retro Gamer's and Micro Mart's homebrew sections notifications about them can be patchy. Unless it's a Super Fighter Team release, they're good at getting the word out.
