Official ‘Age Of Empires II HD’ Expansion Pack Due For Release Via Steam This Year

Official-Expansion-Pack-Announced-for-Age-of-Empires-II-HDBelieve it or not but the Windows classic strategy title Age Of Empires II is set to receive an all new expansion pack fifteen years after its initial release. Following the game’s successful release on Steam through a HD revival, the team behind the reboot have proudly announced that new units and maps will be shipping in later this year.

Originally released in 1999, Age of Empires II was one of the most popular strategy titles of its time, with The Conquerors expansion pack seeing release a year later. Following that the title saw various spin-offs and sequels, and then of course a HD remake released in 2013. The remake which say release on Steam was the perfect example of a classic game being reworked for modern platforms - the original game remained intact and just as playable as it was all those years ago.

While very little has been revealed about this upcoming update, the project’s lead Ryan Chaply took to the Steam community to celebrate the game’s two year anniversary. Amongst various updates, the end of Chaply’s message included the all important information regarding this official expansion pack. Set to be released later this year, this unnamed expansion is due to bring around a new civilisation to play as, new maps, campaigns, game modes, and even new units - one of which revealed in a teaser screenshot.

Updates regarding this expansion are due to be shared on their development blog later this year, supposedly holding plenty of promise for fans of the series.
