Nottingham Set For National Video Game Museum In 2015

Video-Game-Museum-to-open-in-NottinghamAs time goes on, it’s only natural that we begin to see our favourite electronics and video games behind glass doors in a museum. With the likes of Pong and Space Invaders hitting the arcades several decades ago, it’s hard to admit but we’re growing old as gamers. To celebrate everything our pixelated past has brought us, the world’s first cultural centre for gaming is set to open in Nottingham come 2015.

The National Videogame Arcade is due to become a permanent home for the 12,000 pieces - including hardware, software, and just about anything else related to gaming - collected by both the Science Museum and Nottingham Trent University. Spanning a massive five floors, the group behind the project GameCity have stated that their aim is to “inspire and empower games-makers of all ages and backgrounds and to celebrate the UK’s unique heritage as a world-leading innovator in games development”.

Due to open next March, visitors will be able to experience quarterly themed exhibitions on various gaming memories of yesteryear, along with being able to take a historic look back on the evolution of gaming overall. But don’t be mistaken, not every aspect of this new cultural home for gaming is educational. There will be many arcade machines on display and available to play, alongside various consoles and home computers.
