Nintendo NES Set For HDMI Upgrade Modification Kit 'NESHD'

NESHD-Updrage-HDMI-for-Nintendo-NESEarlier this week a Kickstarter project reached its target funding to provide Mega Drive and Super Nintendo consoles with HDMI cables. But where does this leave the old consoles such as the Nintendo NES? Well it would appear that 8-bit gamer's dreams have finally been answered thanks to Game-Tech's newly announced NESHD modification.

Using the NES's on-board chips to help output the visuals, this all new kit finally allows you to run Nintendo's console on a HDTV. Capable of outputting the video to resolutions ranging between 480p to 1080p, Game-Tech and Kevtris's creation will have you enjoying the likes of Super Mario Bros 3 and The Legend of Zelda on modern displays and flat-screen monitors in no time.

If this wasn't enough already, the duo's NESHD kit comes packed with a wide range of features which will no doubt make it a huge hit amongst retro gamers. Promising lag free gameplay thanks to its lack of frame buffer, updatable firmware via flash cartridges, and an on-screen menu to adjust your video signal, they're really thought of everything - and then some...

To add further icing on to this high-definition cake, the NESHD is also set to provide audio upgrades to the Nintendo NES, allowing the kit to mimic various sound chips such as the Sunsoft 5B and potentially the VRC7. And last but not least, the option of scanline generation is going to be included to get that arcade feel on the Nintendo NES, along with the potential addition of HQX scaling too.

For those interested, the NESHD kit is set to cost under $150, with those not to confident with a soldering iron also having the option to send their consoles in to be modified too. Until more is revealed by Game-Tech, check out the various samples of the NESHD in action below:

Maybe he's confusing it with Component cables from HD Retrovision, I can find no such kickstarter for HDMI cables. That would be an order of magnitude more complex, of course.
