Nintendo NES ROM Hack ‘Super Wario Bros’ Gives Mario’s Antagonist An Adventure

Super-Wario-Bros-ROM-Hack-ReleasedIf you’re done with Super Mario Bros and always playing the hero, prepare to experience something slightly different. A Nintendo NES ROM hacker has decided to spruce up the 1985 classic, not only with a new lick of paint, but by also throwing Wario into the leading role.

While the game itself remains untouched and exactly how we remember, the visual changes provide yet another excuse to battle through Super Mario Bros. Every enemy and coin block remains intact, only this time round it feels somewhat natural stomping on Goombas and kicking shell as the bad guy.

For those interested in giving this a whirl, the ROM hack patch for Super Wario Bros has been released online for free at You’ll need to have an original (and legally obtained) Super Mario Bros ROM file to apply this patch to.
