Nintendo NES Classic 'Mega Man 2' Gets Survival Mode

Rockamn-2-Endless-Mega-Man-Survival-Mode-ROM-HackWith just a single life on offer, how far do you think you could get through Capcom's memorable hit Mega Man 2? Your retro gaming skills are about to be put to the test as ROM hackers have created their very own survival mode in the Nintendo NES classic, tasking you with clearing as many areas of the platformer as possible, all without dying.

Most definitely easier said than done, this all new ROM hack known as Rockman 2 Endless draws inspiration from the more recent releases of Mega Man 9 and 10 by recreating their challenging 'Endless' modes of play. Instead of giving you the choice of where to start the challenge, you'll be thrown into a random stage with the only knowledge that after clearing 30 different screens a random boss will appear to beat. But don't panic just yet - while you may only have one life to hand, you do have all of the many different collectible weapons at your disposal from the get go.

As the game itself continues until Mega Man loses a life, the aim of Rockman 2 Endless is to amass a record number of cleared areas. The game now features a small counter in the top right of the screen marking your progress, but we'll be very surprised if anyone's able to hit triple digits. As we all know too well, Capcom's Mega Man 2 is anything but a breeze and will now no doubt have plenty of high score challenges underway.

Rockman 2 Endless (Survival Mode ROM Hack) Gameplay

As usual, to enjoy this ROM hack you will need to have a legally obtained original Japanese Rockman 2 Nintendo NES ROM to which you can apply this patch to. Full instructions on how to patch this ROM can be found within the project's thread, or you can refer to this handy ROM patching guide on YouTube.
