Nintendo Launches Celebrations For 'Super Mario Bros' Upcoming 30th Anniversary

Super-Mario-Bros-30th-Anniversary-Website-LaunchedIt's sobering to think that one of the most popular video games of all time, the very one that got many of us into gaming, is about to turn thirty. Originally released on the 13th September 1985, Super Mario Bros has given all of us countless memories through the years - something Nintendo intends to celebrate in style.

Nintendo's official Japanese website recently launched a small microsite to hold all of its anniversary content for the Super Mario Bros series. Although its main aim is to promote the upcoming Mario Maker game, this microsite provides some fantastic content (albeit in Japanese) which goes through the many different games the Italian plumber has starred in over the years, along with some thank you messages from Nintendo too.

Although the party doesn't really begin until September, this little acknowledgement from Nintendo over its history is a lovely touch and further proof that their roots in retro gaming are still important today. After all, where would the gaming world be without Mario and Luigi?

This is fantastic! I actually cannot believe it has been 5 years since they released the Allstars special edition on the Wii. I wonder what they'll release for the 30th Anniversary?! Exciting times.

Hopefully not another lackluster ROM on a disc that you are referring to. They had the chance to make the 25th anniversary a big deal and they ended up flopping it. Even the Kirby anniversary was better.

I have a horrible suspicion that we won't even get a disc release, just some code to download from the store
