Nintendo Game Boy Adapter For GameCube Gets Enhanced Software 'Game Boy Interface'

Game-Boy-Interface-HomebrewTo the untrained eye the Nintendo Game Boy Player adapter for the GameCube provides a pretty decent experience of handheld games on the big screen. In reality though, the software provided on the accompanying disc which is needed to load cartridges suffers from countless issues and drawbacks - duplicate frames, blurry visuals, and dim colouring. All of this is currently being fixed via an unofficial alternative to Nintendo's software known as the Game Boy Interface.

This brand new development is currently being documented over at the GC-Forever Messageboards, where an incredible selection of features are being revealed and discussed for this alternative. Without going into too many technical details, the different between various display modes and clock speeds has meant that Nintendo's official software was lazily put together and lacking the finesse shown with the Super Game Boy years earlier.

Simply put the Game Boy Interface promises enhanced colour vibrancy, more accurate display of the on-screen action, less blurring, faster inputer, and a crisp 240p output too. The announcement trailer for the Game Boy Interface showcases these features in much more details, but it's worth noting that you'll need some way of loading homebrew applications on your Gamecube before you can make the most of them. Nevertheless be sure to check out how much of an improvement this team of Gamecube enthusiasts have improved the adapter.

Those interested in this alternative will be pleased to know that work in progress builds of the software are available to download from the development thread.

Interesting, I always thought the frame rate thing was a hardware limitation.
