Nintendo Famicom's Deep Dungeon IV: The Black Sorcerer Receives A Fan Translation

Nintendo-Famicom-Deep-Dungeon-IV-The-Black-Sorcerer-Receives-A-Fan-TranslationAfter our time away in Blackpool, it's time to pick up where we left off and continue to update the retro gaming community on all the latest news. First up is yet another fan translation, bringing a previously unaccessible Japanese Nintendo NES / Famicom title known as Deep Dungeon IV: The Black Sorcerer to our backlog of games.

The entire series of Deep Dungeon games by HummingBirdSoft have remained a Japanese exclusive since day one, all seeing release on the Nintendo Famicom during the golden days of the 8-bit era. This latest translation now makes three of the four titles available to the English speaking world, accompanying a half finished translation of Deep Dungeon III: The Journey to the Hero.

If the name Deep Dungeon doesn't ring a bell, it's most certainly one for the hardcore early RPG enthusiasts. This early dungeon crawler holds a lot of promise and enjoyment for fans of the Etrian Odyssey, Phantasy Star and Dungeon Master series.

reminds me a lot of The Bard's Tale; might be worth checking out
(a down, dirty, rotten shame that so many of these Japanese Dungeon Crawlers never made it west)
