Nintendo Announces New 'The Legend Of Zelda' Game For 3DS Based Upon SNES A Link To The Past

Nintendo-Announces-New-The-Legend-Of-Zelda-Game-For-3DS-Based-Upon-SNES-A-Link-To-The-PastDuring this morning's Nintendo Direct conference, Nintendo announced a brand new entry in the Legend of Zelda franchise due to hit the 3DS this year - one which happens to be set in the same world as the SNES classic, A Link to the Past.

Although based upon the 16-bit world, Nintendo have stated that this will be an all new adventure, featuring an original storyline, unique dungeons and much much more. The graphics, however, step away from the Super Nintendo style somewhat, introducing a top-down 3D perspective which will make use of the handheld's stereoscopic display.

The other interesting aspect to this game's announcement was the introduction of an all new ability - one where Link will be able to morph into a chalk-like drawing on a wall. This unusual addition will soon make sense as this new Hyrule quest will be available later this year.

Whilst i love almost every single game shown its the presentation of them that turns my stomach, the constant 2 handed DIRECTLY gesture is beyond annoying as is the terrible engrish from the guys, exactly how hard would it be to have an actual european guy do this feature. Amazing information just bounces off someone like me when its presented in such a terrible way, its why i wont watch 99% of youtube videos gamers make.

The bosses at Nintendo always seem to get close to what we want but never quite there

I totally get what you're saying, but I wholeheartedly disagree. I think Satoru Iwata is an absolute gem, and he never fails to raise a good chuckle from us :-)
I get your point, though - and I can see how some may find this approach annoying.

TBH, I dont think anybody was expecting a brand new Zelda game and the return to the top down view is in my opinion perfect for the 3DS, the new wall walking ability looks sweet too.

It was'nt just that though, a new Yoshi's Island, DK Country Returns 3D, Mario Golf (with online play) and a ton of awesome looking RPG's. It all means that the 3DS is going to have an incredible 2013

3DS really is an extension to the GameBoy brand rather than DS isn't it?

Negative.

I think the DS Lite was the last inkling of the GameBoy lineage we're going to see, with it's simplicity and it's slot 2 for GBA carts.

Ninty is well on the way to embracing more next-gen style, hardware and software-wise (and it's about time) with the 3DS and 3DS XL.
That is, until the Virtual Console (or a flashcard) comes into play, then I suppose you can PRETEND your DS/3DS is a GameBoy...

Kind of an interesting paradox, is it not...? :)

Im so scared that it wont measure up to the original, in fact lets be honest it cant, however as long as its a solid game then that will be good enough i guess

Maybe an unlock of the original game in 3d as a bonus would be a good idea after completing the main story of this one.
