Nintendo Announces Brand New 'Nintendo Classic Mini NES' Console Due For Release Later This Year

Nintendo-NES-Mini-HDMI-Ready-Console-AnnouncedWhilst many of us thought Nintendo's plan for retro gamers ended with the VIrtual Console, today's announcement from the Japanese gaming juggernaut turned countless heads after appearing completely out of the blue. Believe it or not but the Nintendo NES hardware is set to make a prominent comeback this Christmas in miniature form, with pre-loaded games and compatibility with modern TVs.

This fantastic (and legal) take on emulation from Nintendo is a collector's dream. Not only will it arrive in authentic and original 80s styled packaging but the form factor of the classic console is very much present too. This time round, however, the system will be able to do everything you remember despite fitting in the palm of your hand. Also making use of the Wii controller port connection, the official Nintendo Classic Mini NES control pads will be compatible with the Nintendo Wii and Wii U.

While you'd expect the selection of games on an all-in-one console like this to be quite limited, you have to give Nintendo credit here for ensuring all the greats are present amongst the line up of 30 built-in titles.-These include many 3rd party releases like Mega Man and Castlevania which arguably made the 8-bit console so memorable.

The Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System is due to go on sale on the 11th November this year. The US price tag is suggested to be around $59.99, whilst European units are yet to be given such a figure. Either way, expect this to be a sell out hit once the festive season draws near.

Smooth move Nintendo! You've got my money... Again.

What truly makes this amazing is that this will also include third-party titles, when they could have easily just done first-party Nintendo games only, and call it a day. Hope those controllers can endure the rage players will get when they play Ghosts 'n Goblins.

High hopes for this, great price point, superb games selection. Take my money!

With many of these plug and play style systems it's always 1 or 2 good titles and a load of tatt games, this however sets the bar very high. Shame there's no Contra but with that lineup I'm not complaining.

I'm not impressed by the games line-up. There's only one Mega Man game for a start.

I dont get why they wont let people download games on to the system like they do with the virtual console. I hope they realise hackers will easily be able to enable roms to be loaded on to the system in no time.

@Speedle

Fear not... Super C is a Contra game.

Fantastic stocking filler, this. Hope they do a SNES one too.

I'm curious to know how this will scale to 1080p and if it will try to emulate scanlines (i doubt that but would be cool). I'm especially fond of the controllers which will no doubt have a PC driver available at some point too.

Shame it doesn't have a cartridge port but at fifty quid, cant complain too much.

@Noobsaibot21

They're not USB controllers. They're basically Wiimote attachments, so I think that if you can connect a Wiimote to a PC (and you can), you can also connect this one, as it will probably function as a Nunchuk or a Classic Controller.

Though it would be kinda pointless in my opinion, since there are already so many ways to have a classic NES controller on PC (cheapo Chinese knock-offs, USB adapters, etc.)
