Nintendo 3DS eShop 'Sega 3D Classics' Finally Heading West

Sega-3D-Heading-WestOver the course of the year Sega has teased us with a handful of retro gaming classics recieving the 3DS treatment in Japan. These updated ports of Space Harrier, Super Hang-On, Sonic The Hedgehog, Altered Beast, Ecco the Dolphin, Galaxy Force II, Shinobi III and Streets of Rage are all now set to be released in Europe and America by the end of the year.

This incredibly exciting news comes directly from Sega, who recently updated their blog to announce the Western arrival of these 3D Classics. Set to be priced at $5.99/€4.99/£4.49, all eight of these classic Sega titles will be released in pairs over the next few weeks.

“These games were completely re-built to offer a robust 3D experience that offers more modern gameplay while still keeping true to the original,” commented John Cheng, President and COO, SEGA of America. “We look forward to bringing these classic SEGA titles to Nintendo 3DS for fans – both old and new.”

The games are set to hit the Nintendo eShop in Europe and America on the following dates:

  • 28th November - 3D Space Harrier, 3D Super Hang-On
  • 5th December - 3D Sonic The Hedgehog, 3D Altered Beast
  • 12th December - 3D Ecco the Dolphin™, 3D Galaxy Force II
  • 19th December - 3D Shinobi III, 3D Streets of Rage

If the screenshots and snippets of action we've seen from the Japanese equivalents are anything to go by, the festive season of 2013 is set to be an enjoyable one for retro gamers.

did I miss something here? I don't see (nor hear) the slightest difference between this and the Genesis version...

Oh dear, yes, it's great to play the MD classics. But, it's been done on so many systems it's now a bit dull. Streets of Rage 3D? the point being? Unreleased Super Famicom classics would float my boat more than this, seems lazy.
