Revolution Software have stepped forward with the bold idea of creating a new Broken Sword title funded by fans of the series. Stating that today's publishing model prevents the creativity of such projects financially a kickstarter for the fifth Broken Sword game in the series, The Serpent's Curse, has been created.
Despite being a leading name in the Point 'n Click genre during the late nineties, the Broken Sword series has since remained fairly dormant aside from several HD rereleases on touchscreen devices. This, however, is the case for most games in this genre (aside from Telltale's efforts) given that the audience for such adventures today is incorrectly considered niche.
With so few publishers today willing to take a gamble on an story led adventure, Revolution Software are looking to the fans via Kickstarter to help resurrect the series. They are hoping to raise $400,000 which will allow them full creative freedom to develop the next Broken Sword title without the constraints set by publishers.
