Blockbuster World Video Game Championship II - Sega Genesis Reproduction

Blockbuster-Game-Championship-II-Sega-GenesisUnfortunately the Blockbuster Video Game Championship only took place in the US. What makes it even more unfortunate is that only a handful of Sega Genesis host cartridges remain, all in collectors hands. At least until now...

One gamer however has decided to create a run of reproduction cartridge for us all to finally experience the competition in the comfort of our game rooms.

The competition was held back in 1994 in participating Blockbuster stores across the US. The Sega Genesis / Megadrive cartridge from Acclaim featured competition specific versions of NBA Jam and Judge Dredd.

Similar to the Starwing Competition held in Europe in the 90's, players must amass as many points as possible before the times up, in hope of beating the rest of the country. Sadly there is little information regarding the competition online apart from the rarity and value of the remaining cartridges.

MrMark0673 of the NintendoAge forums currently has a thread open for selling the reproductions. Exactly 100 cartridges have been made, each including a custom printed box and cart label. As of writing, there are approximately 50 cartridges still up for grabs, don't leave it too late.

It's tempting... Except I don't like basketball, I don't like the Judge Dredd game, and every time I see "Genesis" on a Mega Drive game, I throw up/die a little... Nice to know it's available though :)
