NES Classic 'Castlevania' Unofficially Whips Onto ZX Spectrum

Castlevania-ZX-Spectrum-Homebrew-DemoNot only have the Winter Olympics been taking place in Russia as of recent, but also the ZX Spectrum homebrew coding competition Retro Games Battle 2014. Alongside the all new developments submitted, one talented homebrew coder has created a playable version of Castlevania for the home computer.

Whilst the very thought of an adaptation of Konami's iconic series running on the ZX Spectrum seems impossible, we've all been proved wrong. Although simply titled Castlevania, this all new ZX Spectrum release seems to be based upon the 1988 sequel Simon's Quest following the inclusion of an interactive town at the beginning.

Despite the limitations of the ZX Spectrum when compared to the likes of the Nintendo NES, this adaptation of Castlevania is absolutely stunning. Not only has the essence of the whip-wielding series been replicated, but also the game's visuals and soundtrack too, albeit ZX Spectrum style.

A demo of this ZX Spectrum re-imagining of Castlevania can now be enjoyed on the Retro Games Battle 2014 website, alongside several other impressive releases. The website's built in emulator will let you jump right in to the action, however, for those wanting to enjoy this in their own ZX Spectrum emulator or the DivIDE adapter on the original hardware, can download the game elsewhere. A full version of ZX Castlevania is expected in the near future.
