Namco's 1987 Arcade Fighter 'Wonder Momo' Set To Return

Wonder-Momo-Set-For-ReturnIf Namco's arcade release of Wonder Momo doesn't ring any bells, you won't be the only one questioning what this obscure treat may be. After hitting the coin-ops in 1987, this classic moved onto the PC Engine in 1989 - only to never been again until the arrival of the Wii's Virtual Console. Fast forward to today and Namco are finally giving the beat 'em up a much needed reboot.

To refresh us all on this long lost fighter, the Japanese exclusive arcade game was a slight parody of the largely popular Ultraman-style superhero series of the East. Loosley following in Metroid's footsteps, Wonder Momo featured a female protagonist, one who was tasked with clearing the streets and paths of the super-villains. Further playing on the parody theme, all of the in-game action takes place on faux-stage and Television-esque locations, many of which seeing the curtain drawn on them too.

Namco's revived interest in this fabled series is due to see an Anime series released starring Wonder Momo, shortly before the neo-retro geniuses WayForward Technologies create an all new game in the series for PC and Android. By the looks of it the game follows the formula of the original arcade release, only this time round the pixel perfect visuals have been updated to feature rich HD animations and backdrops.

More on this interesting development as soon as we know more!
