Move Over RetroN 4, Hyperkin Announce The RetroN 5 Console

Move-Over-RetroN-4-Hyperkin-Announce-The-RetroN-5-ConsoleJust over two weeks ago Hyperkin announced their brand new unofficial console capable of playing NES, SNES, Mega Drive and Game Boy Advance games. It would appear that's old news now as Hyperkin just demonstrated the RetroN 5 at the Midwest Gaming Classic event, due for release later this year.

While we cannot find any word if release of the RetroN 4 has been cancelled, we'd very much expect that to be the case given that the RetroN 5 is a slight upgrade. Hyperkin has confirmed that the console will upscale your games to 720p, introduce save states to the system, overclocking/fast-forward modes, and an interface for configuring controllers and choosing games.

Although Hyperkin did not confirm a price for this rather impressive piece of kit, they did suggest that it would be available for under $100. This would include two Bluetooth wireless controllers (should you want to use them instead of the ports for classic control pads) and the console with cables. As for release dates, Hyperkin did not confirm a set date, however, suggested it would be available sometime after June.

I'm glad they've done something different with the directional controls. I think their solution may work well. I wonder where I can try it out.
