Move Over Mario, Sonic The Hedgehog Speeds Onto Atari 2600

Move-Over-Mario-Sonic-The-Hedgehog-Speeds-Onto-Atari-2600The incredibly talented Atari 2600 programmer, Sprybug, was clearly not satisfied when he ported Super Mario Bros to the Atari 2600. Just mere weeks after his prior efforts, this homebrew developer has switched sides and brought the plumber's rival, Sonic The Hedgehog, back to the past too.

Sprybug recently announced his latest project on the AtariAge forums, whilst also providing a downloadable demonstration ROM of his efforts. Similar to Princess Rescue, this homebrew port of the 16-bit classic is done incredibly well on the dated hardware. Much to our amazement the, albeit short, gameplay demo not only features our favourite blue protagonist, but also rings and loops.

But enough from us. Should you have any interest in the Atari 2600 at all, head on over to the Sonic The Hedgehog 2600 announcement and try this programming feat for yourself.
