'Metal Slug Defense' SNK Playmore Adapts Metal Slug Into A Touchscreen Strategy For iOS & Android

SNK-Release-Metal-Slug-DefenseAfter just about running out of Metal Slug classics to port to modern devices, SNK Playmore have taken their memorable shooting franchise and given it the modern treatment. While Marco and the gang will still be blasting through countless enemies, the traditional run-n-gun gameplay has been cast aside in favour of tower defence style action.

If your first reaction to the very thought of Metal Slug changing genres made your stomach turn, you're not alone. We too were rather alarmed by this transition and immediately got downloading this free title. Surprisingly enough though, we have to admit that SNK Playmore have actually done a great job with this new release and have kept the Metal Slug name intact.

Instead of following the traditional top down viewpoint and paths of the Tower Defence genre, Metal Slug Defense instead keeps the 2D perspective of its prior releases and features battles similar to the ones you'd find on the Neo Geo. Using iconic locations, enemies and bosses from all the previous titles, each level of the game has you building troops and fending of onslaughts as you press forward to destroy the opposition's base. Funnily enough is rather addictive, and its throwback to the classic titles does it no harm at all.

I've been playing this a lot, a really fun game. I even played the multiplayer-mode a few times, it is fun as well even though it seems to have some problems with connecting to players who are on about at the same level. So if you can enjoy losing as well as winning, it's great.
