Mega Drive Rarity 'Mega Man: The Wily Wars' Set For Re-Release In Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Handheld

Mega-Drive-Rarity-Mega-Man-The-Wily-Wars-Set-For-Re-Release-In-Sega-Mega-Drive-Ultimate-HandheldAs retro gamers, we're often faced with the taxing decision of whether or not to make that big money purchase. Mega Man: The Wily Wars is often at the centre of this debate due to it not only being a rarity, but also a Mega Drive must-have. Those unwilling to make the jump, however, can now feast their eyes on the latest Mega Drive handheld iteration which features this classic.

Mega Man: The Wily Wars was released on the Sega Mega Drive in Japan in 1994 and 1995 around Europe. While bringing no new adventures to the table, Mega Man's 16-bit Sega outing sported a remake trilogy of the first three Nintendo NES titles. The game is most notable for missing out a physical release in America, due to it being made available exclusively on the Sega Channel.

Given that Sega's primitive digital distribution service is no longer in action, US gamers have begun cherry-picking the few available European Mega Man: The Wily Wars copies left from eBay - driving the prices up to a jaw-droppingly-depressing amount.

With Christmas coming up and money being tight, those hoping to get closer to Mega Man: The Wily Wars without resorting to emulation are in luck. AT Games have put forward the newest version of their Mega Drive handheld known as the Ultimate Portable Game Player. This version seems to be identical to their Super Street Fighter II version of the handheld, only with the tempting addition of Mega Man: The Wily Wars.

Due to be released on November 13th in the US, the Ultimate Portable Game Player is yet to get a European release date. Be sure to check out our review of the Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Handheld to get our opinion on these miniature Mega Drives.

I bought the one released here last year, but having a portable Mega Man The Wily Wars is too tempting!

this is an officially branded gopher from blaze. it runs firecore. probably the worse handheld MD emulator on the market. the old release could not be updated, can this one? because, really, that will make or break this system. exclusive rom or not, the cheaper version of this same handheld does all the same things. you can run this "rare" rom off the sd card the same as you will be able to off this version. don't buy into the hype. read the reviews of firecore handheld emulation before making this purchase.

Consider also - no battery back up! Up for starting the whole thing again every time you turn the system on?
